Diagnosis Without Delay

One of the biggest hurdles facing families affected by autism is getting a diagnosis.  From the time a parent or caregiver first suspects a child may be autistic to the time an actual diagnosis is provided can take years.  Navigating the complex healthcare system, battling with insurance companies, healthcare provider waitlists, juggling appointments… it all takes away from the primary goal of diagnosis… helping the autistic child and their family thrive.

We understand that the faster a child can be diagnosed, the sooner the child and their family can access life changing therapies and services.  To expedite this result, the Positivity Spectrum is pleased to help connect families to our friends and partners who can provide an evaluation now, not 2 years from now.

“When childcare professionals and my pediatrician first suggested that I get Jacob evaluated, I did what most parents do.  I called my healthcare system to try to set up an appointment.  I was told the wait was over a year to be seen and that I could get on a waiting list to be notified in the event another family canceled.  Discouraged, I figured that there had to be a better way.  And there was.  My pediatrician connected me to a private child psychiatrist who did not take insurance, but had immediate availability to see my son.  Within weeks, we had a diagnosis, had identified therapy services covered by insurance, and started down the path to thriving. There is no reason why waiting lists and bureaucracy should keep our children from receiving the care they need. That is part of why I founded The Positivity Spectrum”- Sarah Kovit Hanna, Executive Director
