The highlight of this first year was all of you.

The connections we have made in the community. The families who come out to our Sensory Saturday events. The business owners who have graciously opened their doors and made accommodations to make their facilities more inclusive. The community leaders we have spoken with to make changes in our communities. The media who helped us tell our story. None of our explosive growth would have been possible without you. You saw what we were trying to create and have embraced us, promoted us, and elevated this organization to a level that we only dreamed of. It is a privilege to serve the autism community and we look forward to expanding our offerings in 2025.

When I set out to find a summer camp option for my son Jacob in the fall of 2023, I never could have dreamed we would be here.  But here we are.

Looking forward to everything to come,

Sarah Kovit Hanna, Esq.

Camp for Kids – Pilot

Camp For Kids was born out of our Executive Director’s need for summer childcare and has become a program that transforms the lives of autistic children.  Every child deserves to go to camp. Make friends. Go on field trips. Enjoy their break from school.

For those autistic children who need a little bit of additional support in order to participate, there were no fully inclusive programs available.  You could send your child to a program with other autistic children, but that isolationist approach does not further our overall goal of true inclusion.  By participating in camp alongside their neurotypical peers, our campers get to work on their social and emotional skills in a safe environment with the support of an aide.  In turn, the neurotypical campers learn about autism and including peers who may be different from them in any number of ways.

We found that during our pilot, empowering the autistic campers to talk openly about autism and their challenges fostered acceptance, support, and a willingness to be inclusive.

Sensory Saturdays

Every parent wants to take their children to have fun on the weekends, but the truth is that many places and spaces are not safe spaces for sensory sensitive children.

By partnering with Sky Zone in Boston Heights, The USA Ninja Challenge Gym in Twinsburg, and Pump It Up in Hartville, we have been able to raise funds for our Camp For Kids Program while providing inclusive play time with the necessary accommodations in place for children to focus on doing what they do best- being kids and having fun!

Media Coverage

When you are a new nonprofit, getting the word out about your mission, vision, and values is imperative.  We have been so fortunate to get media coverage from Spectrum News 1 Ohio, The Nordonia Hills News, Law360, and Uniquely You Magazine!

Financial State

As of the end of 2024, The Positivity Spectrum will be approximately $8,000 in the black.  Our startup costs and overhead have been generously fronted by our founder and Executive Director, allowing us to maximize our impact from Day 1. Armed with 501(c)(3) status going into 2025, look for us to apply for grants, seek private donations, participate in fundraising sales, and continue our Sensory Saturdays

Online platforms

This year, we launched thepositivityspectrum.org along with multiple social media platforms. Our website attracted 2,184 unique visitors, and we now have over 1,000 fans and followers across Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Mission Inclusion

Along with our partners at Building Blocks Therapy, LLC, we are excited to be launching our Mission Inclusion school based program in 2025! Mission Inclusion is a 30 minute secret agent program that teaches children about autism, demonstrates the challenges autistic individuals may face doing everyday tasks, and ultimately awards the students Inclusion Agent badges for successfully completing the program.  This course will also come with a book to go home with students to continue the conversations about disabilities and inclusion.

We will be kicking off the program in April 2025 with the Nordonia Local School District. Following the launch, we will take the show on the road and provide the program to local schools for free. We plan to license this program materials and sell it to other schools and agencies for use, all while reinvesting the profits into the Camp For Kids Program.

In Closing

Starting something new is never easy, but we are proud that we are going into 2025 ready to accept our inaugural class of campers. We look forward to continuing to educate, advocate, and create opportunities for autistic children in our community.
